Night Life: Africana Famous Club, the history of nightlife in Campania

The topic of this article, considering the period in which we find ourselves, is perhaps not the best, but when it ends we will have a great need to have fun!

One of the most dreamed imitated and characteristic places of Amalfi Coast, close to our Villas, in the splendid Praiano: What are we talking about? Africana Disco Club, of course.

Since 1962, this spaecial Disco Club has involved all visitors and inhabitants of the Amalfi Coast: 800 square meters of natural caves,10 meters above sea level and a large terrace with seaview. A monument of the Italian nightlife that in this complicated summer has decided to be closed.

In an interview with Positanonews, Nello Fiorentino, DJ for fifteen years said:

“The decision was painful but we cannot complain about our choice, because it is the right one and we know it.
We just have to adapt to the consequences of this situation, we can’t open a nightclub.
It is impossible to think that social distancing can be respected in a place like a night club”

And to the question about the possible reopening:

“If the virus is gone, we will open in 2021.
But we are ready to delay the reopening if the problem is not extinguished.
Whoever comes here comes to dance, if he can’t do it, we can’t open it ”

A courageous decision , we can’t wait to get back on track with the splendid Amalfi Coast as our background.

sandali capresi bottega

Handmade Caprese Sandals, style of Amalfi Coast

The sandal is perhaps the oldest shoe ever, but how did it become the typical garment of the Amalfi Coast over time, so that it was called Sandal Caprese or Sandal Positano?

Worn for the first time by the ancient Egyptians, “inventors” of the first flip-flop, they are then universally associated with ancient Rome, where everyone, from common people to emperors, wore this comfortable and durable model.

From Rome, even from ancient Egypt, why are they now associated with our Divine?

sandali capresi antichi impero romano

The Roman emperor Tiberius, who we can define as one of the first “influencer” in history, used to run off to Capri and once he retired from political life he settled there.

Those particular flat sandals, fastened at the ankles, became a must for all islanders, until they spread over the entire coast: this is why “Caprese sandals” or “Positano sandals” are produced.

The tradition continues today, where in the streets of the various villages there are a lot of artisans who work closely with tourists, becoming themselves a local attraction conquering various figures of the star system, from Bridgette Bardot to Sophia Lauren.

The most famous Capri shop is Amedeo Canfora, born in 1946 in Via Camerelle, where “model K” sandal was created, dedicated to a little renowned person: Jackie Kennedy.

We also suggest Cuccurullo Capri Sandals boutique which produces sandals for men, women and children since 1950.

From a simple leather sandal with laces, Capri sandals have been embellished with increasingly precious materials and applications, up to the modern birth of Jewel Sandals to give a fashion touch to summer outfits.

lemon spritz cocktail

Lemon Spritz: Special Spritz of the Amalfi Coast

The answer is very simple: “Spritz“.

The Venetian cocktail is now a must but have you ever tried the Amalfi Coast version?

The Spritz is made with the most delicious and genuine fruit of our coast, the lemon, in particular the Limocello that accompanies Aperol and sparkling wine creating a fresh, pleasant version that makes us scream “HOLIDAYS AT THE SEA!”

In our Praiano you can enjoy it in the splendid Cafe Mirante, one of the best tried so far, but you could try to prepare it yourself at home while waiting for a pleasant aperitif overlooking the sea.
